2025 Edition
La 14e edition of the Festival International du Film d'Archéologie de Nyon (FIFAN) was held from September 2 to 7, 2025 at the Usine à Gaz. This free biennial event is aimed at professionals, archaeology enthusiasts and the general public alike. It explores civilizations and various fields of archaeology with some thirty films, complemented by immersive experiences and lectures.
FIFAN provides an overview of the latest archaeological research, enabling visitors to travel from civilization to civilization through time. It is a bridge between archaeology, cinema and society. It highlights films that tell a different story about archaeology and heritage: excavations, discoveries, cultural and social issues. It fosters dialogue between archaeologists, filmmakers and audiences, while inviting us to reflect on our relationship with the past.
Organized every two years by the Roman Museum of Nyon and the Association du Festival International du Film d'Archéologie de Nyon, the festival is a major event in Switzerland for archaeology, history and cinema enthusiasts. Created in 1999, it is one of the major international festivals of its kind, alongside Bordeaux, Rovereto and Athens.
Immersive experiences, new for 2025!
This year, FIFAN inaugurated a new section dedicated to immersive experiences (VR, AR, XR). These tools bring to life vanished sites and societies, visit inaccessible places and immerse audiences in the past. In the face of global threats - climate change, conflict, urbanization - they are becoming essential allies in enhancing and protecting our shared heritage.
The festival aims to support these innovative formats, which reflect the changing ways in which history and archaeology are written. It encourages artistic and technological explorations that transform the way we tell, transmit and preserve our heritage.
Awards and support for creation
An international jury of experts from the fields of archaeology and film awarded prizes and mentions to the best productions in the competition. The public also voted for two prizes: the Audience Award and the new Audience Award for Best Immersive Experience.
FIFAN rewards the most outstanding works, whether large-scale productions or low-budget films. It encourages creativity and innovation in the transmission of archaeological and historical knowledge.
A place to share and meet
FIFAN 2025 devoted two mornings to thematic workshops for professionals in cinema, archaeology and immersive technologies. These meetings, which were open to the public, provided a forum for dialogue, experimentation and networking, and enabled us to work together to imagine new ways of telling stories and promoting our heritage.
