In Lebanon, the thousand-year-old remains of the city of Byblos are one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the Near East. Extensively excavated over the past 150 years, Byblos seemed to have revealed all its secrets until a Franco-Lebanese team of archaeologists made an exceptional discovery: buried to the south of the city's acropolis, an immense necropolis had lain untouched for almost 4,000 years. The monumental tombs still contain the remains of the deceased, as well as the many objects that accompanied them on their journey to the afterlife.
