This year, three prizes were awarded, including Best Low-Budget Film, as well as three commendations and the Audience Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We'd like to thank our audience who, despite the strong temptations of spring, showed themselves to be very attentive, participating actively in the discussions that arose from the presentation of certain films, and mingling harmoniously with the professionals at several sessions. Proof that film really does bring subjects within everyone's reach that one might think were the preserve of specialists alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New paths<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our collaboration with Eric Huysecom, President of the Cercle genevois d'arch\u00e9ologie and lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Geneva, not only opened our eyes to ethno-archaeology, a type of archaeological research little known outside specialist circles, but also made us more aware of the value of archaeological film in its role as a historical document. The fragility of the sources of knowledge in this field, and the need to do everything possible to preserve, develop and disseminate them, was demonstrated by a number of films - one dating back to 1913 - which brought to life the age-old gestures and practices of iron smelting in Africa, performed one last time to be recorded by the camera. The Festival has its place in the construction of this patient edifice. We look forward to renewing this collaboration in two years' time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/em><\/strong>This year, three of our jury members came from France, including the president, Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Renac, as well as Christophe Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick-Linglet, editor of \u00abSagalassos\u00bb, the winning film of our 2003 Festival, and chief editor in Lille. The latter was keen to emphasize how important his participation in the jury had been for him and his entire profession, which is often absent from such events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
