Mesopotamia, the rediscovery of Iraq's lost treasures

In response to a call from the Iraqi heritage authorities, four international teams of archaeologists (among the 200 who have arrived in Iraq over the last 5 years) are back after a 30-year absence from the legendary sites of Larsa, Lagash, Nineveh and Khorsabad in Mesopotamia. Their first mission is to salvage whatever can be salvaged, while assessing the structures still buried underground that need to be protected as quickly as possible.
Over 5,000 years ago, mankind built the first cities in history here, before becoming the world's first megacities 3,000 years later. The study of these gigantic sites, which cover hundreds of hectares, would have been impossible thirty years ago... But today, thanks to the use of the most modern technologies, archaeologists in this region are exploring a crucial chapter in the history of mankind: the birth of the first cities.
