About us

A festival as a place for information, sharing and encounters
Since 1999, the Roman Museum of Nyon has organized the Festival international du film d'archéologie de Nyon (FIFAN). In 13 editions, this biannual, free event has become a must in Switzerland for fans of archaeological cinema. It places Nyon alongside Bordeaux, Rovereto and Athens as one of the major international festivals of its kind.
FIFAN's mission is to promote archaeology through high-quality cinematographic works. As a bridge between archaeologists, filmmakers and the general public, it fosters dialogue and encourages reflection on the links between archaeology and contemporary issues.
Archaeological research, both near and far, is a source of inspiration for a profusion of documentary films. They come from major production companies, from institutions such as museums, missions or archaeological services, and even from passionate amateurs. FIFAN offers a unique opportunity to discover these films, most of which are screened in restricted circles. Its ambition is to be a place for information, sharing and encounters, and to open up archaeology to a wide audience.
The best productions are selected by a jury of experts in archaeology, cinema and immersive technologies. Several prizes are awarded. By rewarding low-budget productions, the festival actively supports small production companies and promotes their creativity.
