FIFAN 2025 draws to a close in Nyon

Benjamin Banon

The 14ᵉ edition of the Festival international du film d'archéologie de Nyon (FIFAN) came to a close on Sunday, September 7, 2025, after six days rich in screenings, experiences and encounters. With 32 films presented, 6 immersive experiences, 2 workshops, 4 conferences and over 4,000 visitors, the event confirmed its role as an essential platform for bringing together archaeologists, researchers, film-makers and the general public.

Unique immersive experiences

For the first time, FIFAN offered a dedicated competition to virtual reality creations. These experiences have enabled the public to travel to sites that have disappeared, explore inaccessible places and experiment with new forms of heritage mediation. A audience prize was created to reward the best of these proposals, underlining the festival's commitment to integrating technological and artistic innovations.

A wide range of scientific themes

The films selected dealt with subjects of great topicality for archaeological research. The bioanthropology gave us a better understanding of the life of ancient populations, while the theme of heritage in danger has highlighted the vulnerability of many sites around the world.
A highlight was also devoted to Swiss archaeologywith three films and a lecture on major discoveries, attracting great interest from the public.

Workshops and conferences: further reflection

Alongside the screenings, several conferences and two workshops enriched the program. The first focused on the contribution of immersive experiences to heritage research and enhancement; the second on the role of documentaries in scientific mediation. These moments of interdisciplinary exchange confirmed FIFAN's vocation as a forum for a place for dialogue and transmission.

A family day to close the event

The SuperFIFANorganized at Nyon's Roman Museum, brought the festival to a convivial close. Aimed at families, the event featured screenings adapted to the youngest visitors, as well as participatory activities promoting an intergenerational approach to archaeology.
